SUMMARY OF ACTIVITIES:

SCOV is one of the few nonprofits in Northern Virginia that serves adults over 50. For over 14 years, SCOV has been providing programs and free services to mature adults as well as giving them opportunities to give back to the community as a volunteer. We are seniors helping seniors! SCOV strives to help older adults remain in their homes, and provides classes to help keep their minds active and to forge friendships with their peers.

  • When our volunteers drive a client to an appointment, they give door–to-door service, and assist with wheelchairs or walkers. They provide the kindness and support you would expect from a family member.
  • SCOV has a wide range of activities: educational enhancement classes called Adventures in Learning are offered in three eight-week sessions per year. Classes challenge the mind and body to include: t’ai chi, bridge, book club discussions and weekly speakers who present on a wide variety of topics. Our quarterly luncheons provide an opportunity for friendship and a delicious meal. We have many annual events: a fall flu clinic, AARP mature driving classes, and our Caregivers Retreat in which we “treat” 30 family caregivers with a half-day of respite.
  • SCOV recipients have expressed gratitude for the work of our volunteers. Clients express with letters of appreciation that they would be lost without the Shepherd’s Center.
