Happy May!

It’s Time to Celebrate Older Americans!

In 1963, President Kennedy dedicated the month of May to the older adults in our country. This year’s theme, chosen by the U.S. Administration on Aging, is Older Americans: Connecting the Community.

What a great theme…it aligns PERFECTLY with the mission of LifeCircle!!

The theme pays homage to the many ways in which older adults bring inspiration and continuity to the fabric of our communities, and highlights how technology is helping older Americans live longer, healthier, and more engaged lives.

The U.S. Administration on Aging is sponsoring two exciting activities in observance of Older Americans Month 2011, a video challenge and a video game tournament. They invite and encourage the participation of seniors and community members across the country.

For more information about Older Americans Month, visit the U.S. Administration on Aging.

LifeCircle encourages you to thank an older person in your life. Can’t think of anyone? Get involved with our many partner agencies and get to know the many “gems” among us here in Fairfax County.

Take time to TALK with an older adult. Older Americans help us to understand the past and they teach us about love, courage, and endurance in the face of life’s challenges (a timely message at present).  Theirs is a legacy of patriotism, responsibility, and service to others.  Capture the conversation on video and share it with future generations. You’ll be glad you did.
