SUMMARY OF ACTIVITIES:

Alzheimer’s Family Day Center (AFDC) is a non-profit organization offering support and direct assistance for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease, as well as their family caregivers.  The organization’s core service is the licensed adult day health program which provides therapeutic activity, medical oversight, meals, and assistance with personal care for individuals with dementia, weekdays from 7:30 am until 5:30 pm.  The program allows family caregivers to work or carry out daily activities without concern for the safety and well-being of their loved one.  AFDC also provides family counseling, caregiver support groups and a variety of education programs for family caregivers. Now in its 27th year of operation, AFDC continues to be the only day center in Northern Virginia exclusively designed for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease.  This year, AFDC will be expanding its services to include a weekday social program for individuals who have recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia.  The Center is located in the Merrifield section of Fairfax, VA.  Transportation may be available for participants through the Fairfax County FASTRAN system or area Metro Access.  The program is Medicaid certified, and provides financial assistance to participants in need through the Center’s scholarship fund.
