$5,900 – Fairfax Adult Day Health Care Associates
Project Description: The grant provides funds for the purchase of Smart Board technology, software and training for one adult day health location. The goal of this pilot project is to introduce technology into recreational activities in order to increase the engagement of participants and improve cognitive stimulation, as well as gross and acute motor skills.
$5,000 – The ARC of Northern Virginia
Project Description: The grant provides funds to develop and establish a web based social calendar for intellectually disabled individuals. The web calendar will bring together various events logistics, such as type, location and cost to build a social opportunity for adults with disabilities and to broaden advocacy.
$10,000 – PRS Inc.
Project Description: The grant provides funds to reinstate the PRS Dental Care Access Program, which locates dentists, negotiates reduced fees for adults with disabilities. The goal of this program is to increase dental visits and follow up visits to the disabled community, in order to promote better physical health.
$10,000 – Autism Society of America - Northern Virginia Chapter
Project Description: The grant provides funds for the "Employ Me - Overcoming Obstacle" project which provides support and promotes employment of adults with autism in Northern Virginia. The goal of this program is to educate employers about the skills available within the autistic community as well as the support needed by the employer. Funds are also provided for the development of a brochure for future employers.
